Episode: The Selection by Keira Cass

It’s like what they said it’s a cross between Hunger Games and the Bachelor and they’re right.  It’s kinda like the Hunger Games coz it has a caste system, the lottery, the political stuff, the state of the people and the love triangle but without the violence of the games.  It’s also like the Bachelor coz the prince chooses his bride from a pool of women but without the sleaziness. But with a prince and a poor girl in the story, it also has a sort of Cinderella feel to it, just with more evil stepsisters.

I didn’t think I’d like the story.  I kept ignoring it every time I went to the bookstore coz I thought the story might be too young for me.  The only reason I bought this the other day was coz of the strong pull of the book cover.  I loved the gown so much.  But after a few chapters, I realized I was so wrong.  I loved it.

I loved America and Aspen’s relationship before she entered the selection.  It was a difficult relationship.  They had to keep it a secret coz of their class difference.  Aspen worked his ass off so he could provide for their future and America did everything she could to make Aspen happy.  Their relationship was so sweet. I wished all boyfriends were like Aspen and when they ended, I was broken hearted.

When she entered the place, I was praying to God that it doesn’t turn out or would not have the aura as The Chemical Garden Series (which is by far the darkest YA I’ve read, I’m not saying that series was bad though.). Good thing it wasn’t coz I wanted an escape.  There wasn’t much too gush about during the Selection but I found myself hanging on to the elimination.  To who was eliminated and why they were eliminated.  But I have to admit, I lost count.  I can’t remember what happened between the elimination from 24 to 19.

The relationship between Prince Maxon and America was Stockholm syndrome-ish for me.  I didn’t feel the development of their relationship much.  I thought that it was possible that the feelings America had for Prince Maxon was just caused by proximity and the attention he was giving her.   Maybe coz America was still in love with Aspen or coz of my love for the double A couple. Or maybe coz I kept thinking that Prince Maxon was probably just playing the game.  I had no idea what he was doing or saying with the other girls.  Or maybe he was just fond of America coz she was different from the other girls.  She didn’t wanna be there and she just treated her like a friend.  I know it sounds like I was bored to death by what I’m saying but I wasn’t.  I appreciated that this wasn’t an insta-love story.  I love insta-love but I’ve been reading too much of it lately I appreciated the break.

I loved the story that I didn’t sleep much so I’d still have time to buy the Elite before heading to work.  I’ve just finished it an hour ago and I loved it as much.
